La “Danza del Diablo”, La Palma

 

From 21 August to 8 September the feast “Fiesta de Candelaria” takes place in the village of Tijarafe on La Palma. The festivities give you the opportunity to experience music, folklore and Canarian culture. The highlight of the festival takes place in the night of 7 September to 8 September when the “Diablo”, the devil, accompanied by the “Gigantes” and “Cabezudos” appears between the dancers. The “Diablo” is one of the villagers, who is dressed in a devil costume and is equipped with fireworks. The “Danza del Diablo” represents the struggle between good (“Nuestra Señora de Candelaria”, the patron saint of Tijarafe) and evil (the devil). This ceremony takes place since 1923 and has evolved and improved steadily over the years. The “Danza del Diablo” also has gained popularity over the years and nowadays it attracts visitors from all over the world. On September 8 the final act of the ceremony, which consists of the eucharist, a procession and fireworks, takes place.

Vom 21. August bis zum 8. September findet das Volksfest “Fiestas de Candelaria” in dem Dorf Tijarafe auf La Palma statt. Die Festlichkeiten bieten Musik, Folklore und die Möglichkeit kanarische Kultur hautnah zu erleben. Das Highlight des Festes findet in der Nacht vom 7. September bis zum 8. September statt, wenn der “Diablo”, der Teufel, begleitet von den “Gigantes” und den “Cabezudos” zwischen den Tanzenden auftaucht und seine Funken sprühen lässt. Der “Diablo” ist einer der Dorfbewohner, der in einem Teufelskostüm verkleidet und mit Feuerwerkskörpern ausgesttatet ist. Die “Danza del Diablo” stellt den Kampf zwischen dem Gut (“Nuestra Señora de Candelaria”, die Schutzpatronin von Tijarafe) und dem Bösen (der Teufel) dar. Dieser Festakt findet schon seit 1923 statt und hat sich über die Jahre stetig weiterentwickelt und verbessert. Mit den Jahren wurde die “Danza del Diablo” auch immer bekannter und zieht heutzutage Schaulustige aus der ganzen Welt an. Am 8. September ist der Schlussakt der Feier, der aus Eucharistie, Prozession und einem Feuerwerk besteht.

Del 21 de agosto al 8 de septiembre las “Fiestas de Candelaria” se celebran en el pueblo de Tijarafe en La Palma. Las festividades ofrecen la posibilidad de disfrutar de la múscia, el folclore y sobre todo de la cultura canaria. El punto culminante de la fiesta tendrá lugar en la noche del 7 de septiembre al 8 de septiembre cuando el “Diablo”, acompañado por los “Gigantes” y “Cabezudos” aparece entre la multitud de personas que bailan en la verbena. El “Diablo” es uno de los habitantes del pueblo, que está disfrazado de diablo con una carcaza metálica equipada con fuegos artificiales. La “Danza del Diablo” representa la lucha entre el bien (“Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria”, la santa patrona de Tijarafe) y el mal (el diablo). Esta ceremonia se lleva a cabo desde 1923 y ha evolucionado y mejorado constantemente a lo largo de los años. Con los años la “Danza del Diablo” fue ganando popularidad y hoy en día atrae a espectadores de todo el mundo. El 8 de septiembre se celebra el acto final que consiste en la eucaristía, una procesión y fuegos artificiales.
