1. DO YOU JUST WANT TO RELAX ON THE BEACH?
You will find large white sand beaches, little hidden beaches, beaches for surfers, beaches for families and many more!
There are two beaches that should definitely be on your bucket list: Playa del Inglés (next to the spectacular dunes of Maspalomas) and Playa de Las Canteras (the stunning city beach of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). In the south you will find lots of beautiful white sand beaches, but also some smaller and quieter ones, like Playa de Mogán and Playa de Pasito Blanco. If you are searching for a hidden gem, Playa Güigüi is perfect for you, but prepare for a challenging hike!

En el sur podrás encontrar una gran cantidad de hermosas playas de arena blanca, pero también algunas playas más pequeñas y silenciosas, como Playa de Mogán y Playa de Pasito Blanco. Si buscas un tesoro escondido, Playa de Güigüi es perfecta, ¡pero prepárate para una caminata exigente!
2. DO YOU LOVE NATURE?
There is so much to do: explore hills and mountains, get lost in the dunes, visit a botanical garden or go diving!
Gran Canaria is also called a “miniature continent”. It is easy to see why: you have got majestic hills and mountains in the center of the island (here you will find the Roque Nublo), large nature parks with lush and varied vegetation (Parque Natural de Tamadaba and Parque Natural de Pilancones) and the sunny south with its splendid beaches and sand dunes (Dunas de Maspalomas).

3. DO YOU LOVE HISTORY, CULTURE AND ARTS?
You will find everything you need on the island: old houses with a rich history, majestic churches, lots of museums and even archaelogical sites!
The place with the richest history is of course the capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: here you will find the charming old city centre with many historical buildings, the impressive Catedral de Santa Ana and lots of museums (see more in our post about the two capital cities). But also the smaller towns have a great cultural interest (have you been to the north of Gran Canaria?) and if you have an interest in archaeology, do not miss the Museo y Parque Arqueológico Cueva Pintada!

El lugar de la isla con el mayor trasfondo histórico es, por supuesto, la capital de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: aquí se encuentra el encantador casco histórico de la ciudad con muchos edificios antiguos, la impresionante Catedral de Santa Ana y un montón de museos. Pero también los pueblos más pequeños tienen un gran interés cultural (en Arucas, por ejemplo, ¡puedes encontrar una catedral gótica!) Small boutiques, big shopping centres and charming shopping streets – everything can be found on the island!
On Gran Canaria you will find many shopping centres, both in the north and south: Las Arenas, El Muelle, Atlántico, El Mirador, El Tablero, etc. The most luxurious one is definitely El Corte Inglés in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with an extensive high quality offer. If you are searching for something more individual, the shopping street Triana in the capital, as well as the charming area next to the beach promenade of Maspalomas are great shopping areas for you!

On Gran Canaria you will find great markets and tons of restaurants with dishes from all over the world and of course the typical Canarian cuisine!
In almost every town of the island a “mercadillo” is celebrated once a week, selling fresh fruits, vegetables and artisanal products. In the capital Las Palmas you will find the Mercado de Vegueta, a big market open every day, as well as the Mercado del Puerto with great little restaurants and a charming atmosphere. But if you do not want to cook during your holidays, you also have plenty of options. On Gran Canaria there are culinary options for everyone: from fresh fish in a little restaurant near the sea to a luxurious dinner in a hotel restaurant! There are a lot of activities for active people: visit a theme park, go carting, climb a mountain or play golf (there are eight golf courses on the island!)

Gran Canaria has a great nightlife, spectacular concerts and events throughout the year as well as many traditional fiestas!
If you want to experience a real “fiesta” then you should come to Gran Canaria during Carnival. The Carnaval de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a spectacular, colourful and exciting celebration that takes place during various weeks in February with a lot of events. But if you come during other times of the years, you will find great night spots on the island, especially in the south and in the capital. And if you prefer some classic music, then the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus will surely have the right thing for you!
