Fuerteventura is the island of the Canaries, which is the closest to the North African coast. The partly mountainous country is rather dry and sparse, but you will be rewarded with magnificent white sand beaches. A total of 77 km of the coast length of the island are reserved for beaches. No other of the Canary Islands can compete. The largest beaches are located in the south of the island on the peninsula of Jandía, but also in the north of the island, specifically in La Oliva, you will find many beautiful beaches.
Fuerteventura is the perfect place for all water sports. The many beaches offer ideal conditions for various sports, especially popular are surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing. The island is very proud to host two major water sports events: the Fuerteventura Windsurfing & Kiteboarding World Cup in Sotavento and Canarian Waveriders in Corralejo. The island is popular, however, especially for the beach holiday, the sea is very gentle and thus also offers the best conditions for the family holiday.
Fuerteventura has a very dry but at the same time exotic and mysterious beauty, which is mainly due to the volcanic origin and the particular location of the island. On land you will discover cacti, palm trees and succulents, some of which are endemic. The fauna consists mainly of birds, many of them are migratory birds. Also lizards, turtles and wild rabbits live on Fuerteventura. The landscape of Fuerteventura is sparse, but the more colorful and diverse is its underwater world: Fuerteventura's diving reefs are famous for their fishing abundance, especially in large fish such as dolphins and manta rays.
Fuerteventura also has a lot to offer to culture lovers. There are many small museums on the island: you can learn about the Spanish conquistadors, agriculture and rural life, get to know Canarian artists in "Casa Mané" or visit the house of the famous Spanish writer Miguel de Unamuno. In addition there are many musical events and festivals with local artists international artists. The well-known WOMAD festival has already taken place several times on Fuerteventura. A highlight is the Festival Internacional de Música de Canarias, ideal for fans of classical music.
