The oldest districts are Vegueta and Triana, where the first government buildings were constructed and where the first landlords settled. Nowadays, in these two districts you can find the main attractions of the city, such as the cathedral “Catedral de Canarias” with its neo-Gothic facade and the theater “Teatro Pérez Galdós”. In the “Casa de Colón” you can not only admire the Canarian architecture, but also look at a beautiful collection of paintings and learn more about the relations between America and the Canaries. In Triana there is also a very nice shopping area with boutiques and cafés. The district “El Puerto” is located near the port and here you will find the shopping area “Mesa y López”, the beautiful beach “Playa de las Canteras” with calm water (it is protected by a reef) and the concert hall “Auditorio Alfredo Kraus”, a treasure of modern architecture where concerts, festivals and events take place during the whole year. La Isleta is a small peninsula which is connected only by a small strip of land to the city. The fishing area is located near the port “Puerto de la Luz” and the beautiful marina. Here you can visit the old fortress “Castillo de la Luz”, which was constructed in order to protect the port from pirates.

La Isleta es una pequeña península conectada sólo por una pequeña franja de tierra con la ciudad. Este antiguo barrio de pescadores se encuentra cerca del Puerto de la Luz y del hermoso puerto deportivo.
